Sommariva del Bosco
Sommariva Bosco is a village at the beginning to the Roero area, borned on the first hill which border to the lowland of Cuneo. It collect all the typical characteristics of the Roero area.
BACKGROUND HISTORY
At the beginning of the XIV century the village was under the control of the Acaja family, some years later this was sold to the Roero. Thanks to his strategical position goes in the wishes of the Savoy family and in the 1470 they lay siege the village. After two years the castle will be conquired and the Roero family casted out, so the manor pass under the control of Claudio from the Savoy family which was lay siege and beaten. In the 1487 the manor and the castle were delivered to Teodoro Roero.
During the 1690 Sommariva is being plundered from the France but the year later the manor go back under the control of the Royal family. In the 1733 the village is sell to the Marquis of Seyssel, even today owners of the castle and the park.
WHAT TO SEE:
The Castle (private). Huge building from the XV century, with a older tower. It was very important during the 1400 and the 1500 like a Savoy outpost.
Saint Giovanni and Holy Virgin Sanctuary. Arose at the end of the 1600 under the direction of the Garove, inside a precious fresco of the XIV century "Madonna col Bambino" and some paintings of Pietro Paolo Operti.
Sentiero di Fiaba. In the historical centre of Sommariva Bosco are installed big paintings representing scenes from the fairy tail "The Sleeping Beauty" of Chearles Perrault.
